Bahari Beach is the most peaceful, tranquil setting we have ever experience. The food was exceptional and they staff gets five stars from us. They really took customer service to a whole new level. The tents were amazing and cleaned imaculatly daily. The property is extremely well-kept by a great guy names Alex. We felt like family here and would HIGHLY recommend staying at Bahari Beach no matter if it is for a few nights or a long vacation. We were very sad to leave and will be back as soon as possible. It was an experience like no other! :)

Stayed at Bahari this past week for Two nights. The only drawback was the road to get there. At the same time that is probably the reason that it is so unique. We stayed in one of the Two beach front bungalow tents which as mentioned numerous times do not equate to standard tent living. Beautiful bathrooms, comfortable large bed and nice flooring. Really good food at the restruant and great service all together. It also seemed that everyone that stayed there during our time there was open and conversational due to the small amount of guests and surroundings. Got a great massage from Victoria and walked down to a few local restruants for additionally good meals. Would highly recommend.

My husband and I have traveled to Costa Rica numerous times and have stayed in many hotels, cabinas, etc all over the country and Bahari is my absolute favorite. The luxury tents are super cool -- unlike anything I've ever seen. They are right on the beach, are extremely clean and comfortable and the pool is excellent too. Matapalo is very much off the beaten path and not much there, which is why we like it, but it's not for everyone. Bahari is worth it though!

If you're looking for a beautiful location to relax, this is the place for you. It is right on the beach with your choice of pool or ocean. sunset cocktails were served daily. We stayed in a luxury tent. It had its own porch, and the bathroom was wonderfully tiled. The food is good - fresh fish daily - which is good since you really are away from it all (i.e. there isn't else much around). There are a few other cabinas in the area, some of which serve simple foods, but Bahari is the nicest. If you are planning to do some sight seeing, be prepared for the time it will take you to get from one place to another, as all the roads are dirt and pitted, so the going is slow. The easiest to get to was Hacienda Baru, where we did zip lining.
There are boogie boards and other things to keep you occupied. To my surprise, our two teens liked the slow pace. Best was how nice the everyone was. I would definitely go back.

I think the Bahari Beach Bungalows are one of the best sports in all of Costa Rica. They have a friendly staff and very clean and well maintained facilities. Bahari is a small place with four large tents...but these tents are not your normal tents. They are very large safari tents with three layers to keep the heat and bugs out. They have tile floors, full tile bathrooms and very nice beds with a fan and refrigerator. I would not hesitate to send even someone with discerning tastes to Bahari. The four tents are around a beautiful little pool and overlook the black sand beach and ocean. You literally walk out of your tent and onto the beach. The food is also good and they have a full bar. Matapalo is a small little town down a terrible little road. It takes about an hour to get to Quepos, even though it is only 30Km away...but it is worth the bumpy ride. I would suggest renting a car in San Jose and driving to Jaco and then take the nice road down to Quepos / Manuel Antonio and stay in Manuel Antonio for a few days then head down to Matapalo to relax and be alone for a while. The beaches are practically empty. We were there for 5 days and only saw maybe a dozen other people all week. We rented some horses and saw all sorts of animals and ate fruit off the trees, it was great. Anyway, I recomend Bahari, it is a nice, small place to get away and have some quiet time.
